In the US, a conservative is someone that doesn't believe the government should interfere. I saw someone on a political show saying that the way some conservatives are here now is the way liberals here used to be. It got confused because for about twenty years conservatives here became known for being very religious and wanting to be the moral majority. It's less that way now.
