The thing I had in mind there was a sort of scenario one might probably know from the Terminator movies. If you need protetion, just hack into 5 cars around you - then you have 5 big dogs. Because carrying a computer in your trouser-pocket is getting common, you possibly have everything you need anytime.
If there's no computer in the car, somebody still needs a crowbar - or at least has to steal the keys. And he can't steal 100 cars simultaneously.
If there's a computer within - and I bet it's always one connected to a public network -, one doesn't even need to sit on the same continent to command these things. 100, 1000 precious cars he can direct to where he wants to - or probably do other things with them, if you know what I mean (direct them to a public building, for example).
