Reason why I'm asking is, I don't find much to appreciate about the 80s. It is a century of economical decline, the music was a load full of kitsch, zeitgeist said to you louder than ever before "consume, don't think!", all of this on credit, and culture on the whole was trapped on the same space for years. It was a whole century of making troubles forgotten which won't walk away just by themselves. The only thing I should be happy about is that some instruments whose sounds I prefer were invented in this time.

About the music, I can say the following: It depends on what you deal with. If you mean the popular material, it's an offense for the word "Techno". If you walk down deeper into the subject, you also find different material.
If I'm ought to explain this with record labels, I choose Time Unlimited, since I know their releases for a bit: Time Unlimited used to be a label releasing Acid and Hard Trance in the 90s. The quality of their releases was actually suitable for commercial market, but it seems like they weren't popular in media at these times. Around the time of the mid 90s EPs of their artists were also released as CD-versions, so no-one could say they couldn't have. Times before and times after this wasn't the case. Beside their label compilations, material of their artists was only released on vinyl (if it did not appear on another compilation). Their most famous artist was somebody called "Nostrum".
There (later) has been harder stuff than theirs on the market, which really would have found its admirers only among certain scenes. Time Unlimited's material was not of that kind, it could have also ended up "in the charts". But as it seems, it mostly wasn't wider known than in the clubs.
Vielleicht ist das pure Nostalgie. Insbesondere, da ich ein 90er Kind bin :) Jahrgang '87, das zählt noch. Ich kann mich an meine Grundschulzeit erinnern, wo sich Kelly Family Fans mit den Backstreet Boys Fans gestritten haben, wer die beste Band ist. Und die guten Cartoons im TV. Obwohl die Meisten meiner Favoriten aus den 80ern kommen (Thundercats, Saber Rider, Marshall Bravestarr, Die Racoons, He-Man etc.). Wenn es um Musik geht, war mein Geschmack noch nicht so entwickelt (war ja noch ein Kind :)) Ich erinnere mich Kraftwerk gemocht zu haben, aber die kommen von weit früher als die 90er. Und die Scorpions. Aber wie gesagt, alles aus früheren Jahren. Aus den 90ern kann ich mich fast nur an Eurodance ala DJ Bobo und Captain Jack erinnern :D Schreckliche Disco-Musik, aber stecken geblieben, wie Ohrwürmer. Heute höre ich elektronische Musik (Industrial, Dark Ambient), insturmental und OSTs, Hardrock und Metal. Aber die Filme in den 90ern waren sehr unterhaltsam. Die Musik... naja, fröhlich und bunt :)
Dies scheint sich aber allgemein im Zeitgeist der 90er gehalten zu haben.
Was die Musik angeht, wie ich es oben bereits angedeutet hatte: Es ist eine Frage, ob man sich mit dem begnügt, was einem populäre Medien täglich um die Ohren spülen, oder ob man näheres wissen will. Es ist ähnlich wie wenn man wissen will, ob die Nachrichten Wahrheit oder Lügen über die politische Lage erzählen.
Taucht man tiefer in Materie ein, entdeckt man mehr.
Mir ist bekannt, dass es in dieser Zeit viel zeitgeistigen Unrat gab. Es straft den anderen Teil Lügen. Nicht erst mit den ausgehenden 90ern, als etwas hochkam, was sich damals "Trance" nannte, gesellte sich etwas Qualität zu den Veröffentlichungen hinzu; dies war bereits weitaus früher der Fall. Faktisch hat es die ganze Zeit existiert; es gehörte nur nicht zu dem, womit die großen Industrievertreter ihre Profite erwirtschaftet haben.
