Well, you can bet your ass on that it all is supposed to serve some special purpose... Only question often is: Exactly what? That's not always hard to tell. Trying to get anything done about the Brexit indeed is a very strong suspicion for the UK's case, as all that you hear about their negotiations is like some students which always come to school without their homework. Empty threads, a whole lot of hot air ejected and nothing getting further to realistically do an exit from the EU. A way out of the situation is also not available - not one without losing face. So, what suits best for such a constallation of circumstances? Solving it safely - or at least make people watch something else, if you can't. What motives drive that adimistration here, compared against that, that's always a mystery and can be more explained with that fact that (West-) Germany is still territory occupied by the US. Physically as well as ideologically in its political ranks. 'Cause - it never really suits their economical plans, their economic strategy when they join sanctions. For example: It's already been quite a few times that some figures pushed for a stop to North Stream 2, without success previously, and all this trying to end the project is in any case a thing that would rather harm Germany than be useful. Baltic states and Poland frequently critisize it - well, because they're excluded from the use of it, but, well, it's also their own political work they aren't in this 'cause they never miss any demonstration of voicing how much they don't need anything Russian. And without North Stream 1 and 2, indeed Europe's warm ass in winter is in danger, not even speaking about the fuel for their economies because they still rely heavily on oil and gas... So... who that sits in that boat could want to abandon these projects? Only a fool. Or somebody who's as blind from ideology as it can be. Or somebody who gets money to campaign for this. Plain and simple. 'Cause killing your own branch that you sit on really is dumb. So that joining sanctions always seems... not really like a decision of love, if you know what I mean. It seems more like an act of "we need to do this as we can't dissent".
