In my experience people change their mind set really quickly when they face reality. Not just think about it but being a part of it. I know lots of people who though my constant discontent with the system was just pessimism but then they went and started working to earn the living and pay the bills and pretty much all they have to live through all atrocities for themselves and then it really changed their thinking.
