Has democracy met its end?

The question may be heretic as to that no-one in the developed world still would want to imagine his surroundings function differently. But the signs of time press to pick up the thought and go through if there shouldn't be any substance with it.
If one recalls all that oligarchy that reigns the planet, the part of the human world, where can you find democracy there? Where is your possibility to have a share of decisional power?
It apperently isn't there where you can make crosses to elect a few representatives of your will, as to that they do whatever their conscience wants them to.
Starting non-profit work and holding rallies doesn't seem be it either, as the people in power can close the curtains and go on with their activities. Petitions can be ignored or quashed with warm-hearted words that pretend a listening, but in the end leave everything in the state that it is.
Not even consumer behavior sometimes seems to reflect that you have a say, as enterprises even drop products which sell good, or they disappear in a hostile takeover by another market competitor.
If you find yourself to be in that marginalized position, it is a serious thought to ask yourself what kind of system is this that you live in.
Additionally, democracy has proven that it isn't suitable for every life situation. If there is a need and it needs to be wiped out quickly, it takes far too long to get very different people to agree on a compromise that is appropriate to the issue that needs to be eliminated. Someone needs to take the lead temporarily.
Also democracy doesn't work if you seek decisions, but they're made using idiots. Or nobody has an opinion at all. Nobody is interested.
