And, pragmatically speaking, this is something that was supposed to happen sooner or later. At an age of 95 years, you're not going to live another 20 years. Though, it's also a bit that he's still made it that far, that he still lasted that long after his resignment. It could have as well happened 1 or 2 years after that.
It's something different than as stubborn Pope John Paul II died who still remained in office as he was visibly sick for long.
