Same is with such things like building a bunker to survive a nuclear war - or a war that destroys the whole world. There is no running away from it. Even food storages have their limits, water and air don't appear out of nowhere. The radiation finds its way into the facility in any way... You can't get an object that hermetically closed that nothing from the ouside gets in. And even if, what you gonna do to breathe inside even though?
And just if you even get that managed, you can never come to the surface again. Radiation lasts longer than a human life. Than thousands of human lives. Chemical warfare is none the harmless either. Results of that, not even to speak of biological warfare, may also last for decades. Nobody can build a bunker like that which makes it possible to live under the surface for decades - that's totally nonsense, and these days it's even a dreamy glorification of Cold War era fantasies.
Science knows that, but... obviously, even for those TechGiants it's a matter of which science they believe in and when it suits their purposes. If it tells them "no, you gonna die miserably!", then it seems like they don't want to hear it.
Also, clearly also speaks for the school education these received.
