Well, you know, in which way this is also bizarre? When Oktoberfest starts, the different chains of stores have all kinds of typical Oktoberfest wares in them, and the Christmas stuff already arrives in the stores by September 1st, while these wares haven't been there yet (or they're currently there). Christmas greetings sooner than signs of Oktoberfest being on - this is really a paradox. (Although this also steps on your nerves - as whole Germany isn't like Bavaria. The Northern lights here give a fuck about fish, not about Weißwurst.)
I would imagine it is meant to make people excited about their meager life by drinking and getting away from reality plus making money on it. The same with X-mas only on a larger scale. Imagine now you have all groups of population as consumers.
I wonder how much beer is still locally owned in Germany? Considering the monopoly on many brands of bottled beer but then I recently read there is a monopoly on drafted as well.
I don't know what to think about this... It seems just like something a marketing department of some big firm thinks the customer would want it (which can be totally contrary to their assumption). Saying, it's like wanting to earn more money still and you have no idea how to do this because because nearly or even all gaps have already been covered.
You're right about the beers! Even I know that much. I think... it was like 3 or 4 big players which owned like all the local and nationwide commercial brands of beers here. "Becks" is one of them, another one is "Carlsberg" (from Denmark). The other one or two I can't name in this moment... Saying, it might be that you still have some private breweries around which work based on a very limited amount of production of beer bottles every year, but, as far as I know, these must be a small amount of them - or simply, they aren't famous enough. Of course, their beer is also pretty expensive then, compared to the big commercial brands which produce their stuff as tons of liters. I wouldn't also become wondering if there's decent numbers of breweries and brands which have been closed down on both sides of the former state border. Meaning, that there hasn't only been a drastic reduction on the territory of the former GDR after the turnaround. I wouldn't believe that it was so only there. Judging from other kind of stuff, I'm informed differently, that such things through takeovers have taken place there too in West Germany through the decades.
