I see Westerners making more an issue out of it to nullify that. Led by a false thinking what "gender" in fact is... They often apply "gender" to traits or skills where it's improper to do that, from a factual view. Everything they see they watch through a filter called "gender" first instead of recognizing "gender isn't what makes your skills, character is a thing of neuronal development" - and that is rather determined by what you get exposed to as a kid and what not in that time.
Some Russians deal with it here and there online in a rather derogatory way, I know. Seen that already. (Who knows what's in texts that I don't understand linguisitcally...) What I think in this context is: Many of them are unable to distinguish American way to approach this topic from the factual substance at the same time. One needn't agree with American fight terms and their neon-colored extremist childish rhetorics, but from that you don't have to declare a whole section to be untrue just because some people really have a screw loose about it and seemingly nothing else to do with their lives than being a walking circus attraction. American thinking about such topic is screwed in some way either because of their single-ego-centered culture and mindset. So... don't take that as your measure to judge a topic or people. It would be like taking an extremists' measure to value things. Which is totally distorted from the average.
