What a radio host once was there for: Knowing music and sending material through the airwaves of his personal preference which he thinks it could also be liked by the audience.
Yeah, I end up driving to and from work a lot, so I listen to a lot of radio and part of being a radio host now is having conversations with other radio hosts on air live. It gets the biggest ratings, so radio stations hire groups of people to talk to each other on the radio while you listen. I think people like it because it reminds them of being with friends. This started with Howard Stern. It is sort of weird. I don't always think it's bad. It's interesting that anyone ever figured out that that is what a lot of people like to hear on the radio. Maybe listeners are more likely to laugh and feel engaged when listening to a group of people talking and not just one person. Also, one person talking can make the listener resent them for being a know it all. People do want to feel like they belong. I can see why it is annoying, but it is also sort of interesting.
Something that is very interesting about it though is that people can no longer meet in groups on their own, so they have to have surrogate groups that take place of like how people used to have friends at pubs or a bar or a club. A lot of modern society is like that with Facebook too. It is like simulation friends.
Again, it is something that when I was in my 20s might have freaked me out, like I once freaked out about how unhealthy all the food was around me unless I went to specific stores, but what can you do about things like this really? I should only eat very special foods, but I don't have the willpower, so I guess I might die early, but oh well.
Hm, think this kind of "programm" only exists on the political channels around here. Otherwise, on the entertainment stations, there's nothing comparable to that what I think you mean. But, admitting, voluntarily I don't listen to the radio, and there aren't that many huge or "quality" stations around here. In general, the last few stations which had something like a regular weekly programm like a TV channel already mainly stopped this almost 10 years ago.
