Somehow with all these fractions in the play, the Syria war is about to turn into the second stunt like the Yugoslavia war. Only with the change this time: Russia's not busy with being self-absorbed. This time they got the means to interfere like the Western alliances.

Interesting point, what would the Serbian/Bosnian intervention have looked like if the Russians had sent troops to defend Serbia? The US and Russia are now fighting proxy wars in both Ukraine and Syria.

It surely wouldn't have ended in the split of the country into the seperate states as they're now on the map with a certain probabilitiy. (One cannot say to be "very sure" or something as those things are a little delicate to say clearly. One can only be sure about it the result wouldn't have been what it is today.)
