Yep. As far as I got taught, historically, as the capitulation was valid, the clocks over at Moscow already were on May 9th at the middle of the night, 2 o'clock or so.
They now capitalize on the Victory and almost imply it is not the Soviet Union but Russia that won the war meanwhile just the ideology where people were fighting for everything that belongs equally to the society gave them great inspiration and courage. Quite different that the imperialistic wars where people die for someone's else riches.
I don't only regard it under the "value" filter; "values" is something, I think, that's for people which want to think emotionally. Which want to think it's about something higher which only is an imagination of a human's head. Pragmatically regarded, it was about another country had the Soviet Union, it came with the intention to destroy life there completely, because it regarded it as insects, because it wanted to extend itself and conquer nessecary resources for world domination, and who, as one whose head will be up on the line, is gonna stand there by and to nothing, not fight back to avoid that fate? In the end it was about not getting tortured, raped and killed - and treated as a slave until last thing would be done to you.
And plus the communist ideology is something completely opposite to ultra-right, the monopoly capital hated it. But after all, didn't they say that Hitler had some mental illness?
As Hitler made the mistake to attack, well, one could bet one's ass on that it wouldn't remain with repeling the attack, but also to reverse the wave which had been getting closer to the Soviet Union over the past decade then anyway. Saying, it should have been obvious then that Nazi Germany wouldn't stop by the border of the Soviet Union, that their aim was to come around there and conquer and destroy anyway.
Mental illness - well, it shouldn't be a miracle to find anything highly dysfunctional on that personality. Just only think about his "carreer" - rejected art student, then hobo, then he had been in jail, was there ever a normal regular job to be found that he had once done for a while? Things like that don't speak for very healthy personality. Then came the drug addiction to be a person on a podest that people listen to... Whatever it was what they'd diagnose him by the definitions of today, at least you can' say that he was an uncomplicated character who could satisfy all the expectations and duties of this time that get raised to a man.
